Andorra is a small country in the eastern Pyrenees, between France and Spain,
and its parishes (parròquies) are the units its government, its census and its
elections are organised around. They fill a country of a few valleys, from the
high ground on the French border in the north to the Spanish border in the
south, and cover it without a gap.

What you are looking at
The parishes of today, named as Andorra names them in Catalan, its only official
language. Canillo is the large parish in the east, running up to the French
border, and Ordino is the one above it in the north-west. La Massana sits
beside Ordino in the west. Encamp is the broad parish in the middle, and
Andorra la Vella, the capital, is a small parish pressed in beside it. Around
the capital is Escaldes-Engordany, the youngest parish, and Sant Julià de Lòria
holds the south, where the Valira river leaves the country for Spain.
The groups are not an official classification. They split the country into the
high northern valleys and the lower parishes down the Valira, a way to learn
the map a piece at a time.
How to place one
- Start with the corners. Canillo is the far east and Sant Julià de Lòria
is the far south-west, so the two are easy to place.
- Find the capital. Andorra la Vella is the small parish in the middle of
the country, with Escaldes-Engordany wrapped around its edge.
- Finish with the north-west. Ordino and La Massana are the two parishes
beside each other on the western side.

Frequently asked questions
How many parishes does Andorra have?
Seven, and together they cover the whole of the country, so the game has no territory outside them. The seven have been the same since Escaldes-Engordany was split from Andorra la Vella in 1978.
Does Andorra group its parishes?
Not officially. The two groups here are the northern parishes and the southern ones, and they are only a way to learn the map.
Where is the capital?
Andorra la Vella, in the middle of the country. Escaldes-Engordany, beside it, is the other town of the same urban area.
