Barbados is the easternmost island of the Caribbean, a single coral island
about 21 miles long, and it is divided into eleven parishes. Ten are named for
saints and one, Christ Church, for the church at its centre. The parishes are
the units its census, its constituencies and its addresses are organised
around, and they cover the whole island without a gap.

What you are looking at
The eleven parishes of today, with "Saint" shortened to "St" as Barbadians
usually write it. Bridgetown, the capital, is in St Michael on the south west
coast, and the airport is in Christ Church at the southern tip. St Lucy takes
the northern point of the island, and St Philip the broad eastern side of the
south.
The groups are not an official classification. They are the north, the string
of parishes along the sheltered west coast, and the rest of the south and east,
a way to learn the map a piece at a time.
How to place one
- Start at the capital. St Michael holds Bridgetown on the south west
coast, and Christ Church lies south of it.
- Follow the west coast north. St James, St Peter and St Lucy are the
parishes of the Platinum Coast, in that order from the capital.
- Cross to the east. St Andrew and St Joseph hold the rough Atlantic
coast, St John the high ground behind it, and St Philip the east of the
south.

the most densely populated parish on the island.
St LucyThe northSt Lucy is the northernmost parish, the point of the island, and one of the
least built up.
St PhilipThe largest in the southSt Philip fills the south east of the island, and is the biggest of the
parishes that are not on the northern half.
Frequently asked questions
How many parishes does Barbados have?
Eleven, and together they cover the whole island, so the game has no territory outside them.
Does Barbados group its parishes into regions?
No. The three groups here are the north, the west coast and the south and east, and they are only a way to learn the map.
Why is it St Michael and not Saint Michael?
Both are used. The game writes St, which is how the parishes appear on Barbadian maps and addresses.
