Belize is a small country on the Caribbean coast of Central America, between
Mexico and Guatemala, and its six districts are the units its government, its
census and its elections are organised around. They run in a row from the
Mexican border in the north to the Guatemalan border in the south, and cover the
country without a gap.

What you are looking at
The districts of today, named as Belize names them. Corozal and Orange Walk fill
the north: Corozal is the corner against Mexico and the Bay of Chetumal, and
Orange Walk is the larger district beside it, reaching west to Guatemala. Belize
District is the coastal middle, with Belize City and the largest of the cayes
off the shore. Cayo is the big western district, against Guatemala and the
highest ground in the country. Stann Creek and Toledo take the south, Stann
Creek along the coast and Toledo in the far south-west corner.
The groups are not an official classification. They are three pairs, taken
from north to south, a way to learn the map a piece at a time.
How to place one
- Start with the corners. Corozal is the top of the map and Toledo is the
bottom, so the two are easy to place.
- Find the coast. Belize District is the one with the cayes off its shore,
and Stann Creek follows it down the coast.
- Finish inland. Orange Walk and Cayo are the two districts that reach the
western border, Orange Walk in the north and Cayo in the middle.

Frequently asked questions
How many districts does Belize have?
Six, and together they cover the whole of the country, so the game has no territory outside them. The six have been the same since 1970.
Does Belize group its districts?
Not officially. The three groups here are pairs from north to south, and they are only a way to learn the map.
Where is the capital?
Belmopan, in Cayo District. Belize City, the largest city and the old capital, is in Belize District.
