The municipality is the tier of Nicaraguan government that names the towns on a road sign, and the country has 153 of them, from a few square kilometres on the volcanic Pacific slope to several thousand in the Caribbean rainforest.
The 153 municipalities of Nicaragua, the second tier under the fifteen departments and the two autonomous regions. They are very uneven: Waspán, in the North Caribbean Coast, is several thousand square kilometres, while Dolores, in Carazo, is a few and is among the smallest in the Americas.
The small ones are all in the south west. Carazo, Masaya and Granada have so many close together that a lot of them need a tap area, and zooming in is the way to reach them. The big ones are the opposite: the Caribbean regions have twenty municipalities between them, and some are larger than whole departments.
Names are as the government writes them, with the accents: Ciudad Darío, Sébaco, Paiwás. The map's source writes some of them with a "Municipio" prefix, a "(Municipio)" suffix or a typo, and the quiz strips these and uses the official form.
The groups are the departments, so the game lets you drill them one at a time. Each department is the same shape in Nicaragua Departments.
Waspán is the largest municipality, in the far north east on the Coco river and the border with Honduras. It is bigger than every municipality in the three departments of Granada, Masaya and Carazo put together.
Dolores is a few square kilometres in the hills of Carazo, between larger neighbours. It is the municipality most likely to need a tap area.
Corn Island is two small islands about seventy kilometres off the Caribbean coast, part of the South Caribbean Coast region. It is the only municipality you will find in open water.

The source drops accents and adds a Municipio prefix to many names. The quiz uses the official forms, so Sébaco and Paiwás are written with their accents.
