The district is the second tier of Liberia, the unit a county is divided into for
local government and for the census. There are 136 of them, from the tiny coastal
districts to the big forest ones of the north.
The districts of Liberia, drawn from the boundaries the census uses. They tile
the country with no gaps, and every one sits wholly inside one county. Their
number is the one place a source can disagree with another, because new districts
are cut from old ones from time to time, so treat 136 as the count on this map
rather than a fixed fact about the country.
The districts are very uneven. In the north, Zorzor and the other Lofa and
Nimba districts are each thousands of square kilometres, while along the coast
and in Grand Kru and Sinoe they are small enough that several need a tap area,
and zooming in is the way to reach them.
A handful of names repeat or are only numbers. Three different districts are
called Commonwealth, and Grand Bassa has four numbered ones with no name at
all, so the quiz adds the county in brackets to tell them apart. Karluway and
Sanquin are numbered too, but each of those is unique in the country.
The groups are the counties, so the game lets you drill them one at a time. Each
county answers under the same name in Liberia Counties.
