Gabon sits on the equator, and almost all of it is rainforest: a narrow coastal plain of lagoons, oil fields and the capital Libreville, then the green interior of the Ogooué basin, which drains most of the country to the Atlantic, with the highlands of the south east towards Franceville and the border with Congo. Roads are few and mostly follow the rivers and the railway from the coast to the east, so a round there is largely a question of where in the forest you are standing. These two quizzes cut the same map two ways: the nine provinces to learn first, and the 49 departments beneath them for when the provinces stop being a challenge. The provinces are grouped into the north, the centre and the south, an unofficial cut, and the departments by province, so what you learn on one carries to the other.
