Haiti is the western third of Hispaniola, a country of mountain ranges and bays whose two long peninsulas reach out to the west like the jaws of a claw, with the Gulf of Gonâve between them and the island of La Gonâve in the gulf. Most of the people live along the coast and in the plain round Port-au-Prince, so a round there is mostly a question of which side of the mountains you are on. These two quizzes cut the same map two ways: the 10 departments to learn first, and the 42 arrondissements beneath them for when that stops being a challenge. The departments are grouped into the north, the centre and the west, and the south, and the arrondissements by department, so what you learn on one carries to the other.
